Where does one start when telling the story of their life? Everything has led me to the place where I am today. Much of it was good but I have had moments that I would have preferred not to have. But then, had I not had them, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
In my younger days, I wanted to be a doctor. I could think of nothing better than helping others and being of service. The ideal and the training did not quite mesh for me! So, I went on to finish my degree in Biology and went out into the world of business.
Fifteen years later, massage therapy found me! I applied for an administrative position within the massage school, got the job, and the rest is history! I started taking some classes because I wanted to know first hand the information I would be giving to prospective students. I was hooked with the very first class! The information I was learning was just what I had been looking for. Attending massage school opened so many windows in the area of natural healing for me and I knew I was doing the work that fed my soul!!
So, now I hold a BA degree in Biology, am a licensed massage therapist in Virginia and Hawaii; I specialize in Oncology Massage and am now certified in Burn Scar Massage Therapy. I am a Registered Jin Shin Do Acupressurist, a holistic health/wellness coach and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). I am also a preferred member of the Society For Oncology Massage (S4OM). For more information about this, please visit their website at S4OM.org.
I received my massage training at the Cayce/Reilly School of Massage in Virginia Beach, VA. While there I specialized in both Oncology Massage and Jin Sin Do Acupressure. I am a graduate of both the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York and the Institute for the Psychology of Eating in Boulder, CO.
Being able to bring compassionate touch to another human being is a special honor and privilege. Being able to do this with someone who is in the grips of a disease such as cancer is especially rewarding.
I love what I do because I feel I am living my higher purpose. I am grateful every day for my health and want so much to help others feel better. Giving of myself and my hands is also natural. Everyone needs compassionate touch and those fighting the battle of cancer and their caregivers need it more, so I am trying to do my part for them.
I have lived in Virginia Beach since the early 90's (with the exception of 6 months in Hawaii in 2000). I live with my two sons, Matt who is 21 and Sam who is 18, and our Siberian Husky, Isis. When I am not actively working I love being outside racewalking with my 85-year old friend, Buddy, or riding my bike on local trails! I love studying natural health remedies and aromatherapy and the use of healing herbs are of particular interest to me!
